I was investigating a script the returns a list of expired domains, however, these domains are almost all recently expired. So I had a question….

How do I purchase a domain from the list of domain names generated by the expired domain list script. So I posted a question on a forum and the below gives you some idea of the process.

Before I list the question and comments I have to say how excited I was and what cool domains showed up. Although I don’t want to steal someones domain if its expired and they plan to renew. Some are really worth scooping up if they are no longer being used. Anyway check out my conversation.

How do I buy a domain that I know is expired. The domain just expired 2 days ago, yet when I search on godaddy to see if I can purchase it says “not available”.

I thought I read someplace that there is a 2 week waiting period, but I also thought that there is a way I can get first in line to make the purchase should the owner not renew.

Anyone know the proper way to do this?

You need to backorder it at places like snap, afternic, godaddy, namejet etc.
Only one of these places will grab the domain so you need to cover your bases. If many people want it then it will go to auction and the highest bidder will get it.

Also if it expired just 2 days ago then the grace period is active. This means the original owner can still renew it during this period.

every registrar will have a different grace period. you can backorder at any time and if no one else backorders, it will be yours.
You can backorder domains that are expiring in 5 years if you want, there’s no time limit
